Basic Income & Billionaire preppers

Thu, 03/30/2017 - 05:56
Three futures: Barbarism, UBI Warehousing or Anarchism

Our global society is broken. Donald Trump & Brexit are symptoms along with the rise of the far right elsewhere in Europe. In an old pattern, fundamental economic crisis often results in society becoming very much more brutal for most people.  In the age of nuclear weapons this current crisis could be our last.  And with a somewhat longer countdown to disaster we are also facing climate catastrophe.

Thousands take part in pro-choice #Strike4Repeal in Ireland

Thu, 03/30/2017 - 05:46
Main bridge in Dublin blocked for two hours
International Womens Day in Ireland saw thousands take to the streets in a sequence of 'in work time' protests under the heading 'Strike4Repeal'. Abortion is illegal in almost all circumstances and the protests were an attempt by pro-choice activists to forced the government to stop delaying a referendum to repeal the anti-choice 8th Amendment placed in the Irish constitution in 1983. Workers Solidarity Movement members took part in organising the day and in the aftermath produced a number of articles and videos detailing what happened.

Greece: NGO Control Over Refugees

Wed, 03/29/2017 - 05:52
The arrest on the 11th of March occurred outside the migrant housing squat (Alkiviadou) which was evicted by the police just two days later. The police still arrested these four comrades even after they were informed that the group was acting in defence of neighbourhood squats, thus the arrest was explicitly political. The Police are thus responsible for making squats more vulnerable to fascist attacks, which is in line with the state strategy to destroy self-organized migrant housing communities.

Statement on the Schmidt Case and Proposed Commission of Inquiry

Tue, 03/28/2017 - 05:50
In our last statement on the Michael Schmidt case and accusations by journalists Alexander Reid Ross and Joshua Stephens that he is a fascist and white nationalist that attempted to infiltrate the anarchist movement, we said that the Anarkismo network had decided “to call for a commission of enquiry to investigate more closely both the accusations and the defence, and to make recommendations to the broader anarchist movement based on their findings”.

Regrettably it has been over a year since we announced our intention to convene a commission of inquiry and it has not yet materialised.

While we have recently started making progress once again on the call for a commission and will continue to work towards finalizing our proposal and framework, however, we have also had enough time now to debate aspects of the case both within and between some of the organisations in the network.

New developments and information concerning the case have also come to our attention that must be addressed immediately.

Organizing against the Irish housing emergency

Mon, 03/20/2017 - 12:18
The occupation of Apollo House in Dublin was the largest direct action in Ireland in recent years, but it did not materialize out of nowhere.

Reactionary Working Class?

Thu, 03/16/2017 - 17:51
Large parts of the western working class now seem to gather around right populists, demagogues, and racists. They vote for reactionary and fascistoid political parties. They helped to vote the UK out of the EU and to make Trump president of the world's superpower number one, and they vote so massively for the far right political parties that the latter have government power in sight throughout several of Europe's most populous countries.

Interview with dona Adriana, mother of Rafael Braga

Sun, 03/12/2017 - 17:13
Rafael is a young poor Black man that until June 2013 used to work picking up material for recycling on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Downtown. He used to sleep on the streets and only sometimes go back home, in favela Vila Cruzeiro, so that he would save up the transportation money. However, on June 20th, his routine changed.

Our Freedom Is In Our Struggle

Wed, 03/08/2017 - 04:14
This article was published on the 37th issue of Meydan Newspaper.
"First, by asserting herself as a personality, and not as a sex commodity. Second, by refusing the right to anyone over her body; by refusing to bear children, unless she wants them; by refusing to be a servant to God, the State, society, the husband, the family, etc., by making her life simpler, but deeper and richer. That is, by trying to learn the meaning and substance of life in all its complexities, by freeing herself from the fear of public opinion and public condemnation. Only that, and not the ballot, will set woman free."

IWD 2017: Celebrating a new revolution

Tue, 03/07/2017 - 14:58
This time around, let’s fight for workers’ control from the start. Let’s create structures with checks and balances that ensure workers keep control. Let us not hand over power to a state that can institute tyranny all over again. We want anarchist communist organisation. Workers' delegation. Equable procedures. Bottom up organisation. It is 100 years since women workers began the 1917 revolution. Let’s do it again! The time for global revolution is here!

The liberal roots of Islamophobia

Mon, 03/06/2017 - 04:30
Today's worst Islamophobes are not hailing from the ranks of the far-right movement, instead they claim to be liberals.

Anarchist Lens: The Green Experiment

Tue, 02/28/2017 - 08:02
Parliamentary politics and the demolilisation of struggle ...
In this post, Anarchist Lens returns to the subject of electoral politics and how it demobilises the struggle for change. The example of the German Greens is examined. In the late 70s, Die Grünen (The Greens) emerged as a new force on the German and European left. Radical and activist led, they claimed to be aware of the pitfalls of the electoral process and were, in their own words, an ‘anti-party party’. Yet, in less than twenty years, they had capitulated on all their key principles: tolerating nuclear power, rubber-stamping German participation in NATO and even agreeing to capitalist-friendly market reforms. How did this transformation come about?

Western Sahara: An Albatross on African Union’s Conscience

Sun, 02/26/2017 - 12:28
At the 28th Summit meeting of the African Union (AU) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 30 January 2017, Morocco's readmission to the continental body generated heated discussion. At the end of the day the Kingdom of Morocco managed to win over sufficient member states on its side and it was allowed to join the fold unconditionally.

2017 South African Budget Speech: No Pravin, it was not progressive nor redistributive

Sat, 02/25/2017 - 14:28
On Wednesday, the Minister of Finance of South Africa stood up in the circus that passes itself off as

a National Parliament and without any sense of irony what-so- ever declared that the South African

state’s budget for 2017 was redistributive and progressive. If the Minister was to be believed,

therefore, the budget was aimed at making a dent in the substantial class and racial inequalities that

exist in the country. To back this up, supporters pointed out that the tax rate on top earners was

raised marginally in the budget and people receiving dividends from shares would have to pay 5%

more on these in tax. Despite this, one word could sum up the idea that the budget presented was

redistributive and progressive: bullshit.

Rather the budget presented by Minister Pravin Gordhan was yet again another attack on the working

class. What the budget did was to favour corporations at the expense of the poor. In doing so, it

remained based on the neoliberal dogma that has defined South Africa’s post-apartheid politics. In

other words, the budget was a vivid demonstration of how the state is an instrument and weapon of

the ruling class that functions to benefit that class. This can be seen throughout the budget, including

how the state plans to raise money and how it plans to spend it.

Palestine-Israel, Celebrating a 12 years of persistent struggle in Bil'in and a small victory*

Sat, 02/18/2017 - 02:32
Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Qaddum, Shikh Jarrah and the South of Hebron Hills
Regional change and new Israeli war minister who is clearly against annexation of additional of parts of Palestine (and even for cutting parts annexed 1948) resulted in the diminishing of the suppression of the non armed popular struggle. For months the Israeli forces diminished the harassment of the Friday demos of villages activists and the Israeli anarchists against the wall. In bil'in they nearly stopped entirely any shooting of tear gas and bullets, seldom tried to stop us from approaching the separation wall... The participants of the big demo of the 12th year celebration could not see even one soldier till the end of the demo when kids forced open the gate of the wall and resulted in a mildest ever response. The failure of the big plan of US to subvert the countries of the region as it exported terror (Al Quida, Daesh and Shieh advances) forced it to compromises with Iran, Rojave, (and probably with Syrian Assad, Russia and the Palestinians).

Solidarity with Théo and every victim of police abuse! No to the “Public Security” law!

Tue, 02/14/2017 - 13:22
The Coordination of Arnarchist Groups (CGA) affirms its solidarity with Théo, who was raped, beaten and insulted by four policemen on the second of last February. We also affirm our solidarity with people who has shown and keep showing their legitimate outrage against police in Aulnay and others municipalities of Seine-Saint-Denis. We denounce the use of violence by the police against protesters, in particular the warning shots using live rounds during the night from the 6th to the 7th of February, as well as all the arrests and the criminal convictions. This Saturday the 11th of February, demonstration against police violence and in solidarity with Théo were organized all over France. Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Bobigny court where the repression was very severe.
